How to Back up Microsoft Authenticator

This article will teach you how to back up your Microsoft Authenticator app. If you ever need to uninstall the app or transfer to another phone, you will want to back it up first or all data will be lost.

To start you will want to open your Microsoft Authenticator app.

Then select the 3 lines in the top left corner to access your Settings.

We will want to turn on this "iCloud Backup". But as you can see if you select this, you will need to be signed in with your personal account first.

You can go ahead and select "Cancel". We will set this up in the next step!

If you scroll down slightly, you will see the option for "Sync Account". Go ahead and select this.

Once you get to this sign-in screen, you will want to sign in with your personal email address (it will not allow Brush Claims email addresses to be used).

If you are a 1099 adjuster and not a W2 employee with a Brush email address, then just use the email address you normally would.

After you have signed in, you will want to go back to your settings.

From here, you can see that your "Sync Account" has been connected (bottom), and you can now activate "iCloud Backup" (top).    (Left Screen)

Once it has been set up, it should look something like this.    (Right Screen)

If you have any concerns reel free to reach out to the IT Department to validate that it looks correct! Submit a ticket Here or email us Here.

Removing and Reinstalling Microsoft Authenticator

Once your account has all been backed up and saved, you can remove the app if needed. To do this, hold down on the app and select "Remove App".

To reinstall the app, you will want to go to your app store to search for the app (just make sure it's the correct one). Or you can click Here to open a link to the Authenticator App in the App Store.

(You may want to forward this link to your mobile device)

If you are having troubles finding the app, you can always reach out to the IT Department!

Once you get to this screen, you will want to select "Restore from backup". It may then give you a couple of pop ups such as "Allow Notifications" and "App lock enabled".

The email that you used to back up your account should be saved here. Go ahead and select that and finish signing in.

Once you have entered your information and signed in, you may get more pop ups such as these.

As a security measure, you may have to reconnect any email addresses associated with Brush Claims. This should only happen with W2 Employees and not with any 1099 Adjusters.

Draft

To regain access to these accounts, you will want to sign into Outlook on the web using the account you're trying to recover. If it tries to send a code to the account that is not yet set up, you can just select "I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now".

It will then ask you to select another authentication method like receiving a text message.

Once you are into your account, you will want to select your profile on the top right corner then select "View Account".

This will bring you to this screen where you will want to select "Security Info", from either of these places.

If you see this option for Microsoft Authenticator, you will want to select the Delete to the right of it. If you see the ones that are below it, Do Not remove those.

It will prompt you to change your default method of authentication for that account, which you can just set to the phone number you have saved and used before.

Once it has been removed, you can select the "+ Add sign-in method" at the top of that screen.

It will then ask what kind of Authentication method you would like to use, and you can select the first one, Microsoft Authenticator. (It will then ask you to make sure you have the app installed)

From the Authenticator App, you can select the account you'd like to remove, then select the settings icon on the top right. From there select "Remove account".

To add your account back, you will select the "+" at the top right corner of the screen. Then select "Work or school account", then select "Scan QR code" and scan the code shown on the computer screen.

It will then send you a test code to test it out and make sure it's connected properly.

Once it has been set up it should look something like this, and you should be good to go!
